"Federal Nuclear Regulation" It discusses with its partners the radiation monitoring and evaluation system

Abu Dhabi, February 19 / WAM / The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation hosted a meeting of the team concerned with radiological monitoring and evaluation of emergency situations, with the participation of a number of national partners, as part of strengthening coordination in the fields of radiation monitoring during nuclear and radiological emergencies.

A number of federal and local government agencies participated in the meeting, which was held at the Authority’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi, where discussions focused on strengthening national capabilities in measuring radiation doses, environmental monitoring, and evaluating radiation effects.

The participants stressed the importance of clarifying the roles and responsibilities among the concerned authorities in a way that contributes to raising the level of preparedness, enhancing the exchange of information, and supporting decision-making to issue the necessary preventive recommendations to protect the public and the environment, in accordance with international standards.

The attendees also discussed lessons learned from previous emergency exercises, including radiation monitoring activities.

The meeting discussed current and future challenges related to radiation monitoring coverage, mechanisms for integrating monitoring data issued by multiple parties, and preparedness for radiation emergencies outside the scope of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant.

Participants discussed opportunities to strengthen joint monitoring mechanisms, develop laboratory capabilities, and improve radiological data analysis to support effective decision-making during emergency response.

The Authority also reviewed its ongoing efforts to enhance national capabilities in the field of radiation monitoring and support the team, through developing standard procedures, issuing guidelines, implementing training programs, and others.

It is noteworthy that the Joint Team for Emergency Radiological Monitoring and Evaluation, which was established in 2015, includes a number of federal and local agencies concerned with planning and coordinated implementation of radiation monitoring, sampling, and laboratory analysis operations during nuclear and radiological emergencies.

The meeting stressed the importance of continuing cooperation between national partners to ensure an integrated and effective national framework for radiation monitoring and evaluation in the UAE.
