Dubai Ports Authority joins the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH)

DUBAI, 19 February, 2018 (WAM) – The Dubai Ports Authority, affiliated with the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, announced its official joining of the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) as a regular member, in a step aimed at deepening Dubai’s presence in international platforms affecting the port industry and strengthening its maritime system in terms of sustainability, efficiency and flexibility.
Membership contributes to enhancing the Authority’s cooperation and knowledge exchange with the global port community, which includes more than 90 countries, and participating in the association’s programs and initiatives in the areas of emissions reduction, energy transformation, digital solutions, and data coordination across the maritime supply chain, in addition to supporting readiness, risk management, and raising the level of operational flexibility.
Captain Ibrahim Al Balushi, Executive Director of the Dubai Ports Authority at the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, confirmed that this step represents an extension of Dubai’s approach to strengthening its presence within the global maritime system and expanding the horizons of cooperation and partnerships with international bodies in a way that supports the sustainability of the sector and raises the efficiency of supply chains.
He said that the Authority’s accession to the International Association of Ports and Harbors represents an important step in its journey to enhance integration with the global maritime system, exchange best practices, and support its priorities in safety, digital transformation, and sustainability. This membership also allows the Dubai Ports Authority to contribute to the development of international port standards.
He added that the step reflects Dubai’s commitment to developing safe, efficient and future-ready port operations in accordance with best international practices, and contributes to enhancing the emirate’s competitiveness and raising maritime standards internationally, pointing out that joining opens new horizons for strategic partnerships and joint projects and enhances Dubai Ports’ ability to keep pace with the rapid transformations in global supply chains and adopt smart solutions and advanced technologies.
He pointed out that the Dubai Ports Authority supervises three main ports in the emirate: Jebel Ali Port, Hamriya Port, and Rashid Port, in addition to Dubai World Docks and Dubai Maritime City, and continues to work on developing infrastructure, organizing operations, intensifying control and inspection systems, and modernizing services in accordance with international best practices.
This accession comes within the framework of Dubai’s vision to enhance the role of its ports as engines of growth and trade and advanced centers for competitiveness, sustainability and innovation through international partnerships that support the adoption of standards and solutions that enhance operating efficiency and sector flexibility.
