Ducab records the first successful test in the Middle East for very high voltage cables using high voltage accessories “Prog Cable”

Ducab, the UAE’s leading integrated power solutions provider and Emirati manufacturer of high-quality cables and wires, has achieved a major milestone by successfully completing the first Extended Qualification (EPQ) tests in the Middle East, in collaboration with Prog Cable, a Swiss company, a leading supplier of specialized high voltage accessories.

The Extended Prequalification (EPQ) and system type testing of 400kV Extra High Voltage (EHV) cables at an emergency temperature of 105°C is the first of its kind in the region, strengthening Ducab’s technical leadership and confirming its competitiveness on the international stage.

This achievement represents a major leap in technical cooperation, as it was achieved in coordination with the “Prog Cable” group, the leading Swiss manufacturer and technology of high-voltage cables known for its research, quality and comprehensive testing capabilities, and TAQA (Abu Dhabi National Energy Company), a government energy holding company based in Abu Dhabi, in addition to DEKRA, the largest independent, non-listed body in the world specializing in inspection, testing and certification.

• Global standards, as tests were conducted in line with IEEE, IEC and AEIC standards, paving the way for Ducab’s expansion into the American and European markets.
• Competitive advantage, as this achievement gives Ducab a strategic advantage in very high-voltage cable system projects, and enhances its ability to serve energy, regional utilities and new international customers more quickly and efficiently.

Prog Cable’s specialist testing services for high and very high voltage cables (up to 550 kV) use large Faraday cage and field diagnostic techniques to ensure the integrity, insulation and performance of cables. Basic tests include alternating voltage tests, partial discharge (PD) measurements of cable connections, and outer jacket tests.
