Extending the period for participation in the Ghanem Ghobash Short Story Award until March 9

Abu Dhabi, February 24 / WAM / The Emirates Writers and Writers Union decided to extend the deadline for receiving entries in the seventeenth session of the Ghanem Ghobash Short Story Award for the year 2026, to Monday, March 9.

This decision came in response to the remarkable demand from writers, and to provide more time for creative UAE nationals to complete their works and submit them according to the conditions approved on the award’s official website.

The award is divided into two main categories: “Short Story” and “Short Story Collection,” where cash prizes will be given to the winners of the first three places in each category, to support and stimulate young literary energies. The curtain on this session is scheduled to fall with the announcement of the names of the winners coinciding with Emirati Writer’s Day, corresponding to May 26, 2026.

The extension step reflects the federation’s keenness to support the art of short stories, discover literary talents, and refine their experiences, complementing the success witnessed by the current session since its launch and the opening of applications on January 19, which contributes to enriching the local cultural scene and consolidating the status of Emirati narratives.
