Dubai Municipality awards contracts for 5 projects within the programme "Conjugation" At a cost of 2.5 billion dirhams

Dubai, February 26 / WAM / In implementation of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, to develop an advanced and flexible infrastructure and enhance the efficiency of the rainwater drainage system to meet the needs of the Emirate of Dubai for the future, Dubai Municipality announced the award of five new project contracts within the second phase of the “Tarif” program to develop the rainwater drainage network in Dubai, at a total cost of 2.5 billion dirhams, which will serve an area of 30 areas. A vibrant area covering 430 million square metres, with an estimated population of 3 million people by 2040.
Dubai Municipality signed contracts for new projects with a group of leading international companies in implementing infrastructure projects, including DeTech Contracting, China Estate Construction Engrg. Corp, and specialized consulting companies, which include three contracts for implementation and two contracts for studying and designing the rainwater drainage system in specific areas in the emirate.
The announcement of this new package comes as a continuation of what was announced in April 2025, regarding the awarding of the first four projects within the first phase of the project, reflecting the phased and strategic approach followed by the municipality in developing the rainwater drainage system, and enhancing the city’s readiness to deal with future climate changes and the requirements of accelerated urban expansion.
The new projects represent a qualitative step in the process of building and developing an integrated and flexible drainage system that contributes to reducing the risks of water accumulation, raising the efficiency and sustainability of infrastructure, and enhancing the quality of life in the emirate, in line with the goals of the Dubai Urban Plan 2040 and national plans to achieve climate neutrality.
His Excellency Eng. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, stressed that the “Tasrif” program is one of the main pillars of developing the infrastructure in the emirate, making it more sustainable, and reflects the emirate’s proactive approach to sustainable urban planning, to build a model future city pioneering its advanced infrastructure designed to keep pace with accelerated urban growth and future climate variables.
His Excellency said that the Tasrif Program represents a practical model for the long-term strategic planning that Dubai Municipality adopts in every daily task and transformational project within its efforts to manage the city’s operations and assets, and our goal is to develop an integrated system for managing and draining rainwater, which supports the city’s readiness, maintains the sustainability of its resources, and preserves the safety and quality of life of its residents and visitors, thus consolidating Dubai’s position as the best city to live and work in the world.
On his part; Engineer Adel Mohammed Al Marzouqi, Executive Director of the Waste and Sanitation Corporation in Dubai Municipality, said that the new projects within the second phase of the drainage program are an advanced step to raise the efficiency and sustainability of the rainwater drainage system, improve the quality of the network in vital areas within Dubai and enhance its absorptive capacity, which constitutes a qualitative addition to the path of preparing the infrastructure of the drainage system to confront climate change, maintain the sustainability of services and business continuity, and raise the levels of safety and quality of life of the residents and visitors of the emirate.
As part of the project implementation contracts, a main tunnel with a diameter of 4 meters will be constructed to connect the urban communities located along Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed and Al Yalayis Streets to the main rainwater drainage network of Dubai Municipality, which will contribute to raising the carrying capacity of water flows, achieving high operational flexibility, and supporting the sustainability of urban growth in one of the most vital areas in the emirate.
The projects also include the establishment of an integrated rainwater drainage network between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Jamayel Street, with a length of 27 kilometers, and includes tunnels and advanced networks.
The project serves strategic transportation hubs and enhances infrastructure flexibility in one of the most important industrial and logistical development areas in the emirate, in addition to ensuring business continuity and basic services, and reducing water accumulations.
As part of enhancing rainwater management in the interior areas, the projects will include the construction of a drainage tunnel and a modern pumping station along Dubai – Al Ain Road and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, with the aim of organizing water collection and emptying operations, in addition to implementing a lake to collect rainwater.
Dubai Municipality has awarded contracts for a project to design an integrated system for rainwater and groundwater drainage in the Al Marmoom and Saih Al Salam areas, to connect them to the main drainage network on the axis of Al Qudra Street, in a way that supports tourism and residential activities in these environmental areas, and maintains the environmental balance in accordance with the highest standards of sustainability.
This new package of the “Tasrif” program, which is worth 30 billion dirhams, embodies Dubai Municipality’s firm commitment to developing a smart and flexible infrastructure, based on innovative engineering solutions, that contributes to consolidating Dubai’s position as a world leader in sustainability and urban resilience.
