Japan and Britain sign cooperation agreements exceeding $24 billion to enhance defense and energy
LONDON, June 14 / WAM / Japan and Britain signed several agreements worth more than $24 billion to enhance cooperation in the fields of defence, infrastructure and technology in various sectors, in addition to clean energy.
This came during Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s visit to Britain today.
The Japanese real estate company Mitsui Fudosan will invest $5.07 billion, while Mitsubishi will invest $2.67 billion to complete projects over the next five years.
The British Prime Minister indicated in a statement the establishment of a joint industrial council for defense capabilities aimed at strengthening industrial cooperation between the two countries, accelerating the development of dual-use technologies for each of them, such as drones and artificial intelligence, and helping British defense companies access large Japanese investments.
In the field of clean energy, the offshore wind energy agreement will facilitate Japanese investments amounting to $12.02 billion in offshore wind energy projects in the United Kingdom to develop floating projects in Britain with a capacity of 5.9 gigawatts, enough to supply eight million homes with clean electricity.
The two countries agreed to enhance cooperation in the fields of security, defense, and highly advanced technology such as quantum computing and artificial intelligence, in addition to cooperation in the field of economy, investment, private partnership, and strengthening vital supply chains, especially in the field of energy and rare metals.
