EDGE and Korea’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration conclude defense cooperation

ABU DHABI, 27 February, 2017 (WAM) – The EDGE Group concluded a framework agreement for defense industrial cooperation with the Defense Acquisition Program Administration of the Republic of Korea (DAPA), during the high-level official visit of the delegation of the Republic of Korea to Abu Dhabi, in a step that strengthens the strategic defense partnership between the two countries.
The agreement was signed by His Excellency Faisal Al Bannai, Advisor to the President of the UAE for Strategic Research and Advanced Technology and Chairman of the Board of Directors of EDGE Group, and Wulli Young Chol, Minister of Defense Acquisition Program Administration in Korea, in the presence of senior officials from the UAE and Korea, reflecting the depth of the special strategic partnership that brings together the two countries.
The agreement establishes an integrated framework for cooperation that includes the areas of design, development, capacity building, training, support and maintenance, moving beyond the traditional supply model into a long-term industrial partnership.
Areas of cooperation include integrated air defense systems, advanced air capabilities, and naval power systems, with estimates that the volume of defense cooperation within the framework of the agreement will reach about 35 billion US dollars.
