Starmer took “too long” to allow British bases to be used to target Iran

US President Donald Trump said he was “extremely disappointed” in British Prime Minister Keir Starmer for initially refusing to allow the US-British Diego Garcia base to be used to target Iran.

The US President said that Starmer took “too long” to change his mind, according to the British news agency (PA Media).

Starmer announced late yesterday, Sunday, that American forces would be allowed to operate from British bases against Iran, but in a limited role to target missile sites.

Trump highlighted the problems surrounding San Diego in the Chagos Islands, which is the subject of a diplomatic dispute between the United Kingdom, the United States and Mauritius, in an interview with the Telegraph newspaper.

Trump criticized the refusal to allow the base to be used to carry out the first strikes against the Iranian army and leadership.

He stated: “This has probably never happened between our two countries before. It seems he was concerned about legitimacy.”

The Prime Minister’s announcement came hours before the Royal Air Force’s Akrotiri base in Cyprus was bombed.
