Trump calls for a Russian agreement with Ukraine

US President Donald Trump said that Russia should conclude a peace agreement with Ukraine and that he will try to contribute to that after the G7 leaders’ meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday, but there are few details regarding any concrete steps to increase pressure on Moscow.
Trump made his statements from the French lakeside resort of Evian-les-Bains, where the summit is being held. Trump described the meeting with Zelensky as “very good”, after renewed focus on the conflict in Ukraine after America and Iran reached an agreement to end the war in the Middle East.
Zelensky and European leaders are seeking to convince Trump that Ukraine’s fortunes have increased as he presses for more support to ultimately give it the upper hand in peace talks. Trump is scheduled to hold direct talks with Zelensky later today.
