Suppliers are intensifying “land shipping” to support markets with additional quantities of vegetables and fruits

Officials of supply companies and members of the Vegetable and Fruit Suppliers Group in Dubai said that they are currently turning to land shipping options for vegetables and fruits, to support local markets with additional quantities in the coming days.
They explained to “Emirates Today” that increasing the quantities of land freight is considered an appropriate window and a supportive alternative, with the production of the local season, in order to increase the abundance of supply and stabilize prices, pointing out that the focus on land freight options includes countries such as Jordan, Syria, Egypt and Turkey, and that there are companies that have increased weekly shipments from 50 tons to 200 tons, and there are additional shipments expected to arrive in Dubai markets today (Wednesday).
Land shipping
In detail, Mohammed Al-Sharif, a member of the Vegetable and Fruit Suppliers Group in Dubai and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the “Farzana” Trading Group of Companies, said, “Companies are currently turning to options and alternatives for land shipping in large quantities, to further support the markets with additional quantities of vegetables and fruits.”
He added, “The most prominent land shipping options available to companies are concentrated in the destinations of Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Turkey, and Lebanon, which makes every company tend to provide the appropriate quantities, to increase the abundance of supply in the markets, thus enhancing price stability.”
Al-Sharif explained that “his company has orders via land shipping, and they are expected to reach the markets in the coming days,” stressing that “the markets are currently witnessing stability and abundance in the supply of vegetables and fruits.”
Increase quantities
For his part, Sharif Wahid, a trader and supplier of vegetables and fruits and a member of the Vegetable and Fruit Suppliers Group in Dubai, said that he “turned to increasing the quantities of land freight, as an alternative window for shipping, to support the markets with additional quantities during the coming period,” pointing out that “his company increased supply operations for land freight from 50 tons per week during previous periods to reach 200 tons per week during the current period,” expecting that additional shipments by land will reach Al Awir markets today.
He added, “Land shipping will include countries such as Jordan, Syria, Egypt, and Turkey, and with the speed and ease of shipping these containers to local markets, the markets will be supported with additional quantities that will increase the abundance of supply and stabilize prices.”
Wahid explained that “resorting to land shipping, in addition to the available local agricultural season production, will enhance all market requirements in additional quantities, and contribute to increasing the stock of vegetable and fruit products at significant rates,” pointing out “the possibility of providing points for selling vegetable and fruit products in Al Awir markets at prices close to wholesale, as an initiative to provide additional outlets to provide consumers with goods at low prices during the month of Ramadan.”
He pointed out that “vegetable and fruit goods are among the items that are difficult for consumers to store in large quantities for long periods, which necessitates the need for some consumers not to rush to buy in large quantities for storage purposes.”
Local markets
In the same context, Mohammed Nassar Al-Rifai, a trader and supplier of vegetables and fruits and a member of the Vegetable and Fruit Suppliers Group in Dubai, said, “Turning to the option of land shipping in large quantities of vegetables and fruits is one of the solutions that supports increasing the additional quantities of supply and stock of various types of vegetables and fruits in the local markets.”
He added, “The trend to obtain types of vegetables and fruits via land shipping is mostly concentrated in destinations such as Jordan, Egypt, and Syria,” pointing out that “the markets are currently witnessing an abundance of types of vegetables and fruits, and stability in prices, with commitment to prior contracts with most sales outlets.”
He stressed that “land shipping options, along with local seasonal production, will enhance the abundance of quantities of vegetables and fruits available in the markets, and increase the availability of multiple alternatives and options in the markets.”
