The library of the Prophet’s Mosque is considered one of the most ancient in the Islamic world, represent a scientific memory documented over the centuries and a prominent knowledge center that contributes to supporting the scientific and cultural movement in Medina, through the specialized services it provides to researchers, students of science, and intellectuals.
Scientific Wealth
The library is located on the western side of the Prophet’s Mosque at Staircase No. (10), while separate facilities have been allocated for female researchers and students of science in two locations; The first is on the northern side at Gate (24), and the second is on the northwestern side at Gate (12), which reflects the integration of services and facilitating access for beneficiaries of both genders.
The library includes a large scientific wealth, including about (4,000) original manuscripts, and approximately (60,000) illustrated and digital manuscripts, in addition to about (4,600) illustrated manuscripts on multiple media, and more than (250) rare manuscripts of the Qur’an, which makes it one of the most prominent Treasurys of the Islamic manuscript heritage.
Heritage Preservation
The library also contains specialized sections that include the manuscript hall, the rare books section, and the audio library, in addition to facilities prepared for research and viewing, supported by digital indexing services that make it easier for researchers to access its contents accurately and easily.
The library of the Prophet’s Mosque continues to fulfill its scientific mission in preserving the manuscript heritage, maintaining it, and making it available to researchers, in a way that enhances the status of Medina. As an incubator of science and knowledge throughout the ages.
