Cooperation between the Global Institute for the Elimination of Infectious Diseases and the UAE University

Abu Dhabi, 9 March / WAM / The Global Institute for the Elimination of Infectious Diseases (GLIDE) and the United Arab Emirates University signed a joint memorandum of understanding, aiming to enhance cooperation in the fields of scientific research, capacity building, training and knowledge exchange, in support of efforts to eliminate infectious diseases, enhance global public health priorities, and contribute to international efforts to eliminate diseases.
The memorandum establishes a framework for cooperation in implementing joint research focusing on infectious diseases, neglected tropical diseases, and other priority health challenges, in a way that serves regional and international needs, as the two parties seek to support evidence-based health policy making and practices, and to enhance the UAE’s scientific presence in the field of global health.
Her Excellency Dr. Farida Ismail Al Hosani, CEO of the Global Institute for the Elimination of Infectious Diseases (Glide), said on this occasion that the memorandum reflects a joint commitment towards enhancing scientific research and building local capabilities, and combines academic excellence with applied research to accelerate the transformation of scientific knowledge into a tangible impact on the ground.
The memorandum focuses on areas of cooperation and multiple capacity-building initiatives, including joint training programmes, lectures, workshops, practical training opportunities and research fellowships, with a special focus on developing local competencies and enhancing the participation of Emirati researchers and trainees.
The memorandum encourages cooperation in the areas of competitive research funding, including joint submission to the Falcon Prizes for disease elimination and other regional and international programs, in addition to the involvement of faculty members and experts at the United Arab Emirates University in grant review processes, in a way that enhances scientific quality and establishes the principle of shared leadership.
Additional areas of cooperation include engaging faculty members and students through academic advising programs, joint supervision, academic exchange, and participation in initiatives supported by the Global Institute for the Elimination of Infectious Diseases (GLIDE), in addition to exchanging knowledge through data sharing, joint scientific publishing, preparing joint policy briefs, and organizing specialized scientific forums.
