Live broadcast.. The UAE surveys the Shawwal crescent to announce the date of Eid al-Fitr

The Emirates Council for Sharia Fatwa announced that the committee to investigate the crescent of Shawwal for the year 1447 AH will be held this evening, corresponding to the 29th of the blessed month of Ramadan, in the capital, Abu Dhabi, headed by the Chairman of the Emirates Council for Sharia Fatwa, the scholar Sheikh Abdullah bin Al-Sheikh Al-Mahfouz bin Bayyah, and in the presence of the Vice Chairman of the Council and Chairman of the General Authority for Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat, Dr. Omar Habtoor Al-Darai.

The convening of the committee comes within the framework of the powers entrusted to the Council in detecting new crescent moons and declaring their confirmation, and its keenness to unify the authority in this regard, in order to establish a disciplined institutional methodology in proving the arrival of the lunar months, and enhance societal confidence in the procedures for detecting crescent moons and declaring their confirmation.

The Council explained that the work of the committee will begin after the Maghrib prayer, where it will present the reports of the field monitoring teams and the results of the investigation received from the accredited observatories in the country, in addition to studying the certificates that may be received from various regions of the country, in accordance with the legal controls and procedures adopted in this regard.

The Emirates Council for Sharia Fatwa called on members of the community to search for the crescent of Shawwal on Wednesday evening, and to participate in registering their testimonies via the designated electronic link, which will be announced on the Council’s official channels, to emphasize the importance of reviving the Sunnah of Tariya, and to enhance community participation in this event.

He stressed that the announcement of the confirmation of the crescent of the month of Shawwal will be made through the approved official channels as soon as the committee finishes its deliberations, asking God Almighty to accept everyone’s fasting and prayers, and to return this occasion to the UAE, its leadership and its people with goodness, prosperity and blessings.
