Egypt warns against dragging the region into comprehensive chaos

The Egyptian Foreign Minister warned that the continuation of the cycle of military operations threatens to drag the entire region into comprehensive chaos.

This came in a phone call received by Minister Badr Abdel-Ati from his Iraqi counterpart, Fouad Hussein, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iraq, where the successive developments in the region and the repercussions of the dangerous military escalation were discussed, according to a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Monday.

The call addressed the seriousness of the current turning point that the Middle East is going through, as Minister Abdel-Aty stressed the utmost necessity of reducing escalation and giving priority to the diplomatic track in order to prevent the conflict from expanding and the catastrophic security and humanitarian repercussions that it may result from.

The call also discussed the direct repercussions of this escalation on Iraq, the importance of preserving Iraq’s stability, the unity and integrity of its lands, and Egypt’s support for the Iraqi government’s efforts to impose its sovereignty and protect the capabilities of its people.

During the call, narratives and joint coordination between the two countries were exchanged on the outcomes of the regular meeting of the Arab League Council, scheduled to be held virtually at the level of foreign ministers on March 29.
