The war with Iran will continue for weeks

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said today that the United States expects its operation in Iran to end within “weeks, not months,” following his meeting with the G7 foreign ministers in France.
Rubio confirmed, following the G7 foreign ministers’ meeting, that the United States is still awaiting further clarification regarding who it will talk to in any potential negotiations with Iran, noting that Washington has exchanged messages and signals with Iran about discussing certain files.
He stressed that Iran’s imposition of fees on ships crossing the Strait of Hormuz is unacceptable, calling on the countries most affected by any step of this kind to take action, in light of growing international concern about the threat to freedom of navigation in one of the most important global sea lanes.
Rubio’s statements came at a time when there are increasing indications of a parallel move that combines military pressure and attempts to open negotiation channels, amid Western efforts to contain the repercussions of the crisis on energy security and international trade.
