Callas calls for joint action against the Russian “shadow fleet.”

European Union Foreign Policy Commissioner Kaya Kallas called for a clear increase in economic pressure on Russia in order to end the Ukraine war.
Callas said in statements to the German channel ARD: “We must do something about the Shadow Fleet, because it is a tool that Russia uses to extract and distribute oil,” noting that in this way Russia obtains revenues to finance the war. Callas added: “We must be creative. We must sit with our partners and talk to them, because if Britain, the United States, Europe, and the G7 partners issue the same sanctions, it will have a major impact,” explaining that the focus now is on putting more pressure on Russia until it ends this war, stressing that the Russian economy “It’s not going well.”
The term Russian shadow fleet refers to oil tankers and cargo ships that Russia uses to evade sanctions, for example, to transport oil, and the European Union has been warning for some time that shadow fleet ships could also be used as platforms to launch drones to launch jamming or espionage attacks.
