The United States lifts sanctions on the acting president of Venezuela


Raised United States sanctions imposed on Acting President of Venezuela Delcy Rodriguez took power after Washington ousted her predecessor, Nicolas Maduro, in a military operation.
On Wednesday, Washington removed Rodriguez’s name from its blacklist, according to what was published on the website of the US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
Rodrigues wrote on social media: "We welcome the President’s decision Donald Trump As a step towards normalizing and strengthening relations between our two countries, we are confident that this development will lead to the lifting of the sanctions currently imposed on our country."

Exploiting Venezuelan oil reserves

About 3 months ago, Washington overthrew President Nicolas Maduro, as American forces arrested him during a military operation in Caracas and transferred him to the United States.
Since then, Rodriguez, who was Maduro’s deputy, assumed the acting presidency, and made many concessions and conciliatory initiatives towards the United States, while US President Donald Trump claims that he is the de facto ruler of the country from Washington.

Trump intends to exploit Venezuela’s vast oil reserves.
The US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) is gradually lifting the embargo imposed on Venezuelan oil since 2019.

Reopening of the US Embassy in Venezuela

On Monday, the United States announced the reopening of its embassy in Venezuela, 7 years after it was closed.
The US sanctions on Rodriguez included freezing any assets it owns in the United States. United States, and prevent American companies and citizens from doing business with it.
