Impossible.. Putin warns Armenia against joining the European Union

For more than two years, Yerevan has shown increasing hostility towards Russia, its historical ally that has long supplied it with weapons, and still maintains a military base in Armenian territory.
Yerevan accuses the Kremlin of not providing it with sufficient support in its disputes with Azerbaijan, especially during the armed conflicts in Nagorno-Karabakh in 2020 and 2023.
In the spring of 2025, the Armenian parliament passed a law aimed at starting negotiations to join the European Union, Russia’s competitor in the Caucasus region.
Pro-Russian political movements
Putin announced on Wednesday that he hopes that pro-Russian political movements will participate in the parliamentary elections scheduled in Armenia in June.
He said to Nikol Pashinyan: "We would very much like all these political parties and politicians to be able to participate in this internal political work during the elections".
