"Chinese Central Bank" 12 new banks are approved to operate the digital yuan

BEIJING, 3 APRIL/WAM/ The People’s Bank of China, the central bank, announced today the addition of 12 banks to its list of institutions authorized to operate digital yuan operations.

The central bank said, in a statement broadcast by Xinhua News Agency, that this step aims to promote the stable development of the digital currency, improve the comprehensiveness of its services, and meet the aspirations of the public through the use of safe, convenient and effective services for the digital yuan.

The new operators, including China CITIC, China Everbright and Huaxia banks, will be linked to the central bank’s digital yuan system. The new operators will begin providing digital yuan services after completing operational and technical preparations.

The Chinese central bank confirmed that it will continue to expand the number of operators in order to encourage broader market participation and support innovation.
