"Emirates Library Association" Celebrates Arabic Manuscript Day


Sharjah, April 4, WAM / The Emirates Library and Information Association celebrated “Arabic Manuscript Day,” which the Arab world celebrates on April 4 of every year, emphasizing the importance of manuscript heritage and its role in preserving cultural memory and transmitting knowledge across the ages.
Fahd Ali Al-Maamari, Chairman of the Association’s Board of Directors, stressed that this occasion represents an important milestone for recalling the nation’s cultural heritage, pointing out that “the Arabic manuscript is not just a historical document, but a living record of the process of science and thought that contributed to building human civilization.
He explained that Arabic manuscripts played a pivotal role in transmitting science and knowledge to various parts of the world and were scientific beacons that contributed to the development of multiple fields, including medicine, astronomy, philosophy and language.
He added that this day sheds light on eras in which the authorship and translation movement flourished, as the Arab-Islamic civilization opened up to other cultures, absorbing and developing them, which strengthened its position as a center of global intellectual radiation.
He pointed out that the celebration of Arabic Manuscript Day also comes to confirm the shared responsibility in preserving this heritage by preserving it, verifying it, digitizing it, and making it available to future generations in a way that ensures its continued presence and influence in the present and the future.
Al-Maamari stressed that the Arabic manuscript represents a renewed cognitive energy that reflects the nation’s identity and its ability to create, calling for intensifying efforts to protect it and enhance the benefit from it in various cultural and scientific fields.
