Dubai Municipality launches a technical guide for the safety of water coolers and refrigerators to enhance public safety

Dubai Municipality has launched the technical guidance guide regarding health and safety requirements for drinking water coolers and refrigerators in public places within the Emirate of Dubai, which includes the most important standards and basic requirements for maintaining the quality of food, water, and safety of devices, in an advanced step that reflects its continued keenness to enhance the quality of life of Dubai’s residents and visitors and provide proactive protection from potential risks to public health and safety.

The launch of the guide comes as part of the municipality’s efforts to develop and implement the best public health and public safety standards, and to consolidate the approach of proactive prevention of potential risks as the cornerstone of risk management and protection of community members. The guide aims to ensure compliance with health and safety requirements in the installation, maintenance and operation of drinking water coolers and food refrigerators in public places, thus contributing to reducing potential risks before they occur.

The guide focuses on educating owners, operators, and workers about the most prominent risks associated with this equipment, including electrical risks, potential water contamination, food safety requirements, and general hygiene, in addition to the importance of maintaining the civilized appearance of public facilities. It also contributes to ensuring the continuity of providing services in accordance with the regulations in force in the emirate, and in a way that enhances public confidence in these services.

Acting Executive Director of the Environment, Health and Safety Foundation in Dubai Municipality, Dr. Naseem Mohammed Rafie, confirmed that the launch of the guide represents a step in support of the municipality’s efforts in the field of enhancing the efficiency of the health and safety system in the emirate and making it more sustainable, according to a flexible approach that ensures proactive prevention of potential risks to public health, enhances compliance with health and safety requirements, and provides the highest levels of quality of life for the residents and visitors of the emirate.

Dr. Naseem said: “Through this guide, we develop a clear and specific framework that helps owners and operators adhere to technical requirements, and enhances their ability to manage risks efficiently, which directly reflects on the safety of users and the quality of service provided and ensures the health of the community in a safe and healthy environment, in addition to improving the civilized appearance of public facilities in the Emirate of Dubai, reducing accidents and health risks, improving the efficiency of energy consumption, and reducing the waste of water and food.”

The guide provides general requirements, requirements, and applicable practical instructions that facilitate installation, maintenance, and periodic follow-up, and limit malfunctions, leaks, and waste, whether in water, energy, or food, in addition to maintaining electrical safety, general cleanliness, and pest control, in a step that integrates with the Emirate of Dubai’s trends toward enhancing sustainability, preserving resources, and raising performance efficiency.

Dubai Municipality called on all owners and operators to review the guide and adhere to its requirements and guidelines, emphasizing that health and safety is a shared responsibility, and that maintaining a safe and clean urban environment begins with each individual’s commitment to his role, so that Dubai remains a pioneering city in quality of life and sustainability.
