The Cooperation Council welcomes Lebanon’s decision to “strengthen the extension of state control over Beirut and restrict weapons there.”

Today, Friday, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jassem Al-Budaiwi, welcomed the decision issued by the Council of Ministers in Lebanon, in which he requests the army and direct security forces to immediately strengthen the extension of full state control over Beirut Governorate and limit weapons there to legitimate forces alone. Al-Badawi said in a press statement that this decision represents an important step towards consolidating the sovereignty of the Lebanese state and strengthening its legitimate institutions in a way that contributes to maintaining security and stability and preserving the safety of citizens and residents.
He reaffirmed the Gulf Cooperation Council’s firm position in support of the sovereignty, security, stability and territorial integrity of the sister Lebanese Republic in a way that achieves the aspirations of the brotherly Lebanese people for security, stability and development.
