11 new projects to develop the road and transportation network in Dubai

The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai revealed the implementation of 11 development projects during the month of April, as part of its ongoing efforts to improve the efficiency of the road network and achieve the highest levels of traffic flow and safety in various regions of the emirate, keeping pace with rapid urban and population growth, and enhancing the quality of life and daily mobility of residents.
The authority explained, in its report, a copy of which was seen by Emirates Today, that the projects were distributed among traffic improvement works, infrastructure expansion, and road lighting, in addition to developing pedestrian and bicycle paths. The authority began its projects, this month, by implementing road lighting works in the first and second Al Nahda areas, with the aim of improving the level of safety and enhancing night vision for drivers, followed by implementing similar works in the Hor Al Anz area.
The authority implemented a set of traffic improvements on Saih Al Salam Street near the Al Lusailly Wedding Hall, aimed at increasing traffic efficiency and reducing congestion points. It also implemented a package of projects that included traffic improvements in the Al Jaddaf area towards Sheikh Rashid Street near the Dubai Police Officers Club, in addition to widening a ramp at the intersection of Dubai – Al Ain Road with Lahbab Street towards Dubai, which contributes to facilitating vehicle movement and increasing the road’s capacity.
The Authority stated, in its report, that during the middle of the month it will implement road lighting works in the Hor Al Anz East area, to enhance traffic safety, while traffic improvements will be implemented on Nad Al Hamar Street towards the “Nad Al Sheba 2” area, with the aim of reducing travel times and improving vehicle flow.
The projects will reach their peak by the end of the month, when a number of vital initiatives will be implemented, most notably the opening of a pedestrian and bicycle bridge on the Dubai-Al Ain Road, which supports sustainable mobility and enhances the safety of road users, in addition to implementing road lighting works in the first, second and third Jumeirah areas, as well as in Muhaisnah First and Second, in addition to making traffic improvements on Abdullah Omran Bin Tarim Street for those coming from Hessa Street, to raise the efficiency of connecting vital roads.
The Authority confirmed that these projects come within a comprehensive strategy to develop infrastructure and enhance the flow of traffic, stressing that its efforts are continuing to achieve smoother, more comfortable and safer transportation for all road users in Dubai.
She explained that her development projects are moving at a steady pace towards expanding the road network and improving mobility services, by providing innovative and smart solutions that contribute to supporting sustainable growth, and keep pace with the aspirations of Dubai and its residents towards a more prosperous and flexible city of movement.
The Authority stated that infrastructure development is not only limited to alleviating traffic congestion, but also aims to save road users time and effort, improve the flow of traffic and raise its efficiency through developing engineering designs, widening streets, and constructing bridges and tunnels, in addition to modernizing traffic control systems, smart signals, and supporting infrastructure.
These efforts come within the framework of a comprehensive vision to raise the efficiency of transportation and improve connectivity between vital areas in Dubai, allowing for easier and more streamlined transportation, reducing congestion on the main streets, and supporting the emirate’s march towards greater leadership in the areas of infrastructure, sustainability, and quality of life.
Completion of the second phase of developing waiting areas at marine transport stations
The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai completed the second phase of the project to develop waiting areas at marine transport stations, which included five stations, namely Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Fahidi, Bluewaters, Baniyas, and Al Seef, as part of its continuous efforts to develop the infrastructure and maritime transport system, enhance the quality of maritime transport services, and Dubai’s position as a leading global destination in the field of transport.
The second phase was implemented with designs inspired by the emirate’s maritime heritage, in a way that shows the cultural identity of Dubai, keeps pace with the requirements of urban development, and enhances the physical, psychological and social dimension of customers in accordance with the concept of quality of life, providing elements of comfort and safety, and thoughtful spatial organization, in completion of the first phase, which was implemented last year and also included five stations, namely: Marina Promenade, Marina Terrace, Marina Walk, Marina Mall for Marine Transport North, and Marina Mall for Marine Transport South. It achieved high levels of customer satisfaction.
Director of the Maritime Transport Department at the Public Transport Corporation at the Roads and Transport Authority, Khalaf Balghazouz Al-Zarouni, said that the selection of the stations of the second phase was based on the results of customer satisfaction reports, and they were provided with air conditioning services, providing chairs, expanding spaces, and designing entrances and exits suitable for the elderly and women, in addition to free Internet service, audio announcement systems, and screens displaying live information regarding maritime transport trips, which contributes to enhancing the quality of life and customer service, and providing an organized and attractive urban environment.
