The head of the US Immigration Agency resigns from his position

Todd Lyons, Acting Director of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency, has resigned from his position.
The agency is charged with implementing US President Donald Trump’s deportation campaign against immigrants.

Todd Lyons will leave his post at the end of May, his boss, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullen, said in a post on the X platform.

Trump appointed Lyons to the position in March 2025, and Lyons had previously served about 20 years

The agency faced a wave of criticism over its immigration enforcement operations in American cities, including Chicago and Minneapolis, where masked federal agents were sent to target immigrants.

The protests intensified after federal immigration agents shot and killed two people in separate incidents in Minneapolis in January, sparking widespread demonstrations and renewed scrutiny against the methods of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
