The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council affirms the Council’s commitment to development, peace, and avoiding wars and conflicts

Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, said that the Cooperation Council pursues constructive policies based on development and prosperity, not wars and conflicts, and always seeks to achieve a stable and secure environment.

Al-Budaiwi stressed – according to a statement distributed by the Council’s General Secretariat – during his participation in the “Middle East after zero-sum politics” session within the activities of the Antalya Diplomatic Forum that the Cooperation Council seeks to enhance mutual trust with regional and international partners based on well-established principles, foremost of which is respect for the sovereignty of states, non-interference in their affairs, and resolving disputes by peaceful means, which enhances trust between states.

He added that the Gulf Cooperation Council has always been a partner in solutions based on diplomacy and dialogue, noting that despite the treacherous Iranian attacks against the GCC countries and the serious repercussions they caused on security and stability, the GCC countries did not change their policies towards development, stability and support for countries in need.

He explained that the Gulf Cooperation Council countries made great efforts to prevent war, yet they were surprised by these unjustified and illegal Iranian attacks.

Al-Budaiwi pointed out that the Cooperation Council played an initiative role in a number of regional files, most notably the Palestinian issue, and supported international efforts to achieve a two-state solution, in addition to humanitarian aid and political initiatives in many issues.

He said that these roles embody the belief of the Council countries that regional and international stability is a shared responsibility, pointing out that the Gulf Cooperation Council has adopted this responsibility with all seriousness by concluding 28 strategic partnerships with countries around the world, in addition to its cooperation with 8 regional organizations through which it has established its regional and international position as an effective link that contributes to enhancing dialogue, supporting peace, and achieving stability and prosperity.

He stressed that what the GCC countries have achieved is a source of pride, as this was demonstrated not only in economic growth, but also in the Council’s ability to withstand and face challenges, as its member states have proven that joint action is capable of achieving achievements that exceed expectations and enhance its position on the international arena.

He pointed out that these combined Gulf efforts contributed to building a regional system based on cooperation and integration and an effective element in achieving regional and international security and stability.
