Mass shooting in a park in North Carolina, USA

A planned fight between a group of young men turned into a mass shooting in a park in the US state of North Carolina on Monday morning, as several people exchanged fire at each other.

Police said in a post on social media that the mass shooting occurred at 10 a.m. in Leinbach Park near Jefferson Middle School in Winston-Salem.

Police did not specify the number of victims of the shooting, and stated that the suspects were still on the run.

The North Carolina Bureau of Investigation indicated that the shooting did not occur at the school, which was closed until the location was secured after the shooting occurred.

The police said that many people, including victims and suspects, have been identified and located, but efforts are continuing to determine the fate of everyone. Some of those involved in the incident were juveniles.

The shooting occurred in a park in a residential suburb northwest of Winston-Salem, a city with a population of about 250,000 that has been known for decades as the headquarters of the RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company.
