Kiev needs European Union funding to cover the expected deficit in its budget, but it was able to secure a sufficient amount from other supporting parties while Budapest blocked the loan.
An official said that the European Union countries are seeking to give the final green light to release the loan to Ukraine today, Wednesday, which raises hopes that Hungary will reverse its refusal position.
Zelensky said in his statement: "We must continue to systematically apply sanctions pressure on Russia over this war, and intensify work to diversify Europe’s energy sources."
He added: "Europe must be independent from those who seek to destroy or weaken it".
