European agreement on a road map to complete the strengthening of the single market

Nicosia, April 24 / WAM / The European Union institutions announced reaching an agreement on a roadmap entitled “One Europe, One Market” aimed at completing the strengthening of the single market by the end of 2027, on the sidelines of the informal meeting of heads of state and government in Cyprus.

The agreement was signed by Nikos Christodoulides, President of the Republic of Cyprus in his capacity as rotating President of the Council of the European Union, Roberta Mitsola, President of the European Parliament, and Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission.

The road map includes specific goals for submitting legislative proposals and reaching agreements between participating legislators within a clear timetable, in addition to a quarterly review mechanism to follow up on progress, specifying precise institutional responsibilities for all Union institutions, and conducting periodic evaluations to ensure full transparency.

The Cypriot President stressed that this map represents a turning point in enhancing Europe’s competitiveness, and is a strategic necessity to support long-term flexibility and prosperity within an integrated single market, while the President of the European Parliament considered that the agreement reflects the trend towards a stronger Europe and the ability to confront shocks and provides clarity for citizens and companies, stressing that the Union is implementing its obligations by taking bold decisions.

For her part, the President of the European Commission stressed that implementing these measures will contribute to stimulating economic growth, ensuring digital transformation, and enhancing the resilience of the industrial sector, noting that these priorities constitute the core of the Commission’s work during the next phase.
