Google intends to invest $40 billion in the artificial intelligence company Anthropic

Google announced its intention to invest up to $40 billion in the artificial intelligence company Anthropic, paving the way for a long-term alliance between the two American companies. This investment comes within the framework of a partnership in which Anthropic uses Google chips and cloud computing services.

The French news agency, Agence France-Presse, quoted a representative of Anthropic as confirming that the agreement includes an initial investment of $10 billion from Google, while the injection of the remaining amount of $30 billion depends on performance and achieving goals.

This announcement came a few days after Amazon revealed a plan to strengthen its cooperation with Anthropic with a new investment of five billion dollars, in addition to another $20 billion if performance goals are achieved.

For its part, Anthropic announced that it has committed to spending more than $100 billion on Amazon cloud computing services to support artificial intelligence over the next decade.

Anthropic is among the companies competing in the artificial intelligence sector that are spending tens of billions of dollars on computing infrastructure in their quest to be a leader in this technology.

Anthropic revealed in early April that it had tripled its annual revenues to exceed $30 billion, surpassing OpenAI for the first time.

Anthropic’s CEO, Dario Amodei, visited the White House last week, where a friendly atmosphere prevailed between the two parties, according to statements, after the company refused to grant the Pentagon the right to unconditional use of its artificial intelligence models.

Earlier this month, Anthropic announced “Mythos,” its latest model for artificial intelligence, which it refrained from launching due to its potential cybersecurity risks and fear of its use by hackers.
