US President Donald Trump said that someone tried to assassinate him twice, following a shooting incident that occurred while he was attending the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

Trump added, in a press conference following the incident, saying: “I call on all Americans to renew their commitment to resolving political differences by peaceful means, away from violence.” He continued: “What happened tonight should be an incentive to strengthen national unity, not further division and fragmentation.”

He pointed out that the security services carried out a raid on the suspect’s apartment in California, after his arrest in Washington, DC.

He concluded by saying: “The suspect is detained, and he is a person suffering from severe disorders, and we do not want such incidents to be repeated in our country.”
