Saqr Ghobash and the Vice President of the German Bundestag discuss enhancing parliamentary cooperation and regional developments

Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council, and Omid Nouripour, Vice President of the Bundestag, “Parliament” of the Federal Republic of Germany, held a discussion session at the Council’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi, during which they discussed ways to strengthen cooperation relations between the UAE and the Federal Republic of Germany, and coordination on various issues of common interest in regional and international parliamentary forums, in a way that embodies the existing strategic partnership between the two sides and their keenness to consolidate regional and international security and stability.

The discussion session touched on the latest developments in the situation in the region, the Iranian missile attacks that targeted the UAE and a number of brotherly and friendly countries, and international efforts aimed at confronting terrorism and extremism, emphasizing non-interference in the internal affairs of countries, and adopting diplomatic and political solutions to address crises, in a way that contributes to achieving security and stability at the regional and international levels.

The two sides stressed the importance of ensuring the security and smooth flow of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, as it is a fundamental pillar for the stability of energy markets and the global economy. They stressed the need to maintain the security of sea lanes and reject any threats to their safety or obstruct the movement of international trade, and called for strengthening international efforts to ensure that the Strait remains open and safe for navigation traffic.

They stressed the importance of the role of parliaments in building bridges of communication between countries and promoting the common interests of peoples, stressing the necessity of adopting peaceful solutions to address crises, and the role of parliamentary diplomacy in supporting the efforts of governments and facilitating dialogue on various issues.

Saqr Ghobash welcomed Omid Nouripour and the accompanying delegation and stressed the depth of the historical and close relations between the UAE and the Federal Republic of Germany, which are based on solid foundations of mutual respect and common understanding.

Saqr Ghobash expressed his appreciation for this visit, which embodies the depth of solidarity and sincerity of the position and comes in light of accelerating international challenges, and reflects a common awareness of the importance of strengthening cooperation and responsible parliamentary work that puts stability and development at the top of priorities.

He stressed that the Iranian attacks that targeted civilians, installations and infrastructure in the UAE and countries in the region represent a violation of the sovereignty of states, international law and the United Nations Charter, and an undermining of regional peace and security.

He pointed out that the UAE was subjected to attacks with missiles and drones as part of the attacks witnessed in the region, stressing the state’s ability to protect its sovereignty, security and stability, and its right to take the necessary measures to defend its lands and citizens.

He stressed that the Iranian attacks are based on a doctrine created by the Iranian Constitution and reinforced by school curricula and religious schools of thought that allow the export of the revolution and produce children whose eyes are on weapons more than on books.

He stressed that the UAE is making continuous diplomatic efforts to give priority to the language of dialogue and peaceful solutions, stressing that any agreement between the United States and Iran must be based on sustainable foundations that address threats comprehensively and contribute to achieving security and stability in the region.

He pointed out that the UAE believes that Gulf security is not only a regional issue, but rather an essential element in the international stability equation, given its direct connection to global trade, energy security, and supply chains, pointing out that maintaining the stability of the region is not only a regional responsibility, but rather a shared responsibility, requiring closer coordination between international partners.

He also stressed the importance of an effective European role, especially the German role, in supporting regional stability, enhancing respect for international law, rejecting the targeting of civilians, and addressing sources of tension in a way that achieves security and stability for all.

Saqr Ghobash expressed the UAE’s appreciation for the position of the Federal Republic of Germany in condemning the attacks that targeted the country and a number of countries in the region, as part of the joint statement issued on February 28, 2026 by Germany, France, and the United Kingdom, which affirmed the rejection of these attacks and called for a halt to the escalation.

For his part, Omid Nouripour, Vice President of the German Podcast, expressed his thanks and appreciation to Saqr Ghobash for the warm reception, appreciating the analysis presented by His Excellency on developments in the situation in the region, and confirmed that he shares many of the contents of this proposal.

He conveyed to Ghobash the greetings of the Speaker of the German Parliament, who stressed that she attaches great importance to parliamentary exchange between the two sides.

He pointed out that the relations between the UAE and the Federal Republic of Germany are not only based on government relations, but also on the friendship of peoples, and that parliaments, as representatives of the peoples, play an essential role in consolidating and strengthening this friendship.

He stressed that any form of exchange and dialogue between the two sides remains welcome and interesting, whether at the direct bilateral level or through multilateral parliamentary platforms.

He pointed out that his visit today to the UAE is of special importance in light of the current crisis, because it represents a moment to demonstrate the truth of friendship and mutual standing between countries in times of distress.

He added that true friendship does not appear only in normal circumstances, but is confirmed in difficult times, pointing out that walking together in good weather is easy, but in bad weather the reality and depth of relationships appear.

He stressed that Germany stands with the UAE in confronting the unjustified Iranian aggression, as this represents a threat not only to the UAE, but also to global security and stability.

He explained that his visit to the UAE also stems from two main reasons: The first is to confirm that Germany stands by the UAE at this stage, and to embody the depth of relations and friendship between the two countries, and the second is to enhance dialogue and direct consultation on current developments, which contributes to coordinating positions and supporting efforts aimed at achieving stability in the region.
