A German tourist dies after being bitten by a snake in Egypt

A German tourist died after being bitten by a snake that entered his pants during a show during a family vacation in Egypt, German police announced Monday.

The 57-year-old man, whose name was not revealed, was attending a performance by the “snake charmer” in early April at a hotel in Hurghada, a famous resort on the Red Sea.

Bavarian police said in a statement that the two snakes, believed to be cobras, were wrapped around the necks of several members of the public.

She added, “Then the ‘snake charmer’ let one of the snakes slide into the German tourist’s pants, and it bit him in the leg.”

The victim showed “clear signs of poisoning” and doctors had to revive him before transporting him to the hospital, where he later died, according to the statement.

The man was on vacation with two of his relatives.

German police and prosecutors are investigating his death and are awaiting toxicology results.
