Imprisonment sentences of up to ten years for 25 defendants for supporting Iranian attacks on Bahrain

The head of the Terrorist Crimes Prosecution stated that the Bahraini High Criminal Court issued rulings today, Tuesday, against 25 defendants in 22 cases related to some people supporting Iranian attacks on the country, obtaining and broadcasting banned vital data, photographing prohibited places, as well as broadcasting false news and rumors on social media sites.

It sentenced 24 defendants to prison for periods ranging between 5 and 10 years and fined some of them two thousand dinars, and one defendant to be imprisoned for a year and fined two thousand dinars. It also ordered the confiscation of the seized items, according to what the Bahrain News Agency “BNA” reported on Tuesday.

The Public Prosecution had received a number of reports from the Anti-Cybercrime Department, indicating that accounts had been monitored on social media sites supporting the Iranian attacks that targeted the Kingdom of Bahrain, publishing vital data and photographing vital places prohibited from being photographed, in addition to broadcasting false news and rumors aimed at harming the morale of Bahraini society in light of its exposure to aggression.

By conducting investigations, the identity of those in charge of these accounts was determined, and the Public Prosecution initiated the investigation.

In light of this, the Public Prosecution ordered the defendants to be referred to the High Criminal Court, where these cases were heard in several sessions in which all legal guarantees were taken into account, including the presence of the defendants’ lawyers and enabling them to express their defense, until the aforementioned rulings were issued today.
