"Standard & Poor’s" Maintains South Korea’s rating at level "AA" With a stable future outlook

Seoul, April 30 / WAM The global credit rating agency Standard & Poor’s on Wednesday maintained its credit rating on South Korea at the “AA” level, with a stable outlook.
The agency thus maintained South Korea’s long-term sovereign credit rating at its third highest level since August 2016, when it raised the rating by one notch from “AA-” to “AA.”
The agency said in its latest report that global energy market turmoil poses a risk to South Korea’s economy in 2026, but it expected that the country’s highly competitive electronics sector and supportive fiscal policy would mitigate these adverse factors.
The policy environment has returned to normal after the election of President Lee Jae-myung in June 2025, she said, adding that the current administration is well-positioned to respond decisively to the risks posed by the global energy market crisis.
The agency expects the country’s real GDP to remain higher than most other high-income economies over the next three to four years, noting that geopolitical risks still cast a shadow over South Korea’s sovereign rating.
