Via “Global Video”… “Emirates Airlines” reveals the scenes of the largest aircraft modernization program

Emirates has released a new video that offers a fun, yet fascinating, look behind the scenes of its massive aircraft modernization programme, a $5 billion investment, to completely refit the interiors of 219 aircraft.

According to a press release issued by Emirates Airlines, the video, which mimics popular home renovation television competition shows, provides an exceptional experience for every traveler, and adds a touch of humor to its depiction of the Emirates team working in harmony, given the true scale of the largest aircraft modernization project in the world.

The video revolves around an Emirates airline captain and his family, who choose to renovate a Boeing 777 instead of their home on a competition show called DIY Dubai. The Captain shows great enthusiasm when the scene moves to an Emirates engineering facility, where a team of engineers are present to carry out modernization work – the largest DIY project in the history of aviation.

Starting in May 2026, the video presentation will be launched globally, reminding customers that Emirates Airlines provides an unparalleled travel experience on board its aircraft, with elegant and luxurious cabins, comfortable seats, an award-winning entertainment system, cuisine inspired by the cuisines of the region, and distinguished drinks, in addition to a world-class cabin crew.

Customers can experience the same aircraft shown in the video – a modernized 777-300ER or 777-200LR – which currently operates to and from Dubai across 40 destinations, with 10 more destinations to be added soon. The 40 destinations include: Athens, Barcelona, Basra, Beijing, Beirut, Bogota, Boston, Brussels, Cape Town, Chicago, Colombo, Dallas/Fort Worth, Dammam, Dublin, Frankfurt, Geneva, Hong Kong, Johannesburg, Kochi, Kolkata, Kuala Lumpur, Kuwait City, Lisbon, London, Madrid, Male, Manama, Melbourne, Mexico City, Miami, Mumbai, Newark, Phuket, Riyadh, Seattle, Seoul, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Tokyo, and Vienna. The next ten destinations are: Addis Ababa, Brisbane, Karachi, Milan, Mauritius, Narita, Singapore, Taipei, Tehran, and Ho Chi Minh City.

The 9 most important information about the modernization program at Emirates Airlines:

1. The modernization program at Emirates Airlines is a complete renovation of the cabin inside the aircraft, where everything is removed and completely new designs and seats are installed, with a focus on customer comfort. This includes next-generation seats, new stylish restrooms, more storage space, better connectivity and advanced entertainment options, in addition to a luxurious design that gives the flight an upscale character.

2. As part of the modernization programme, Emirates Airlines is installing the new “Premium Economy” class on all aircraft. This class is an award-winning luxury experience, offering spacious reclining seats, built-in leg and footrest, an adjustable headrest, in-seat charging, a side table, a 13.3-inch entertainment screen, and a generous food service served on cloth linens.

3. During the modernization process, Emirates Airlines is taking advantage of the opportunity to install the “Starlink” satellite Internet service throughout its fleet, which means providing free, high-speed Internet service to everyone, even at an altitude of 40,000 feet. Customers will be able to stream content, play games, make calls, work, and browse social media via their personal devices.

4. In the latest phase of the modernization program, which begins in October 2026, Emirates will install 4K OLED displays with HDR10+ technology on the seatbacks of 60 A380 and 51 Boeing 777 aircraft, providing more vibrant colors and rich, multi-dimensional sound, whether using Emirates’ luxury headphones or customers’ own wireless devices via Bluetooth technology.

5. Economy Class passengers will benefit from the introduction of the new, lightweight “Safran Z400” seats, specially designed for comfort and practicality, with installation of this new model starting in October 2026. Features include an eight-way adjustable headrest to support the head and neck, along with improved in-seat charging capabilities.

6. Emirates Airlines also continues to develop its business class with new, upscale seats inspired by the luxurious “S Lounge” leather seats from “Safran”, which are already used on “A350” aircraft. These seats provide a more private space, with wireless charging built into the side table, customizable lighting, additional storage spaces, a small refrigerator, and multiple charging options including USB-C and wireless charging.

7. The first class on Emirates Airlines, which is described as a “hotel room in the sky,” provides spacious private suites above the clouds. Innovative technologies include electronically controlled privacy doors, personal temperature control and adjustable mood lighting. The update also includes shower facilities on board A380 aircraft and lounges. As part of the latest improvements, Emirates Airlines offers the latest generation of Bowers & Wilkins E2 first class headphones, which provide advanced noise isolation technologies and a richer and more comfortable audio experience.

8. To date, Emirates has completed the modernization of 94 aircraft, with another 125 aircraft remaining in implementation plans by its specialized teams.

9. Emirates’ modernization initiative is a unique project, as its engineering team renews each aircraft individually. The refurbishment process takes 18 days, during which engineers work around the clock to upgrade the Boeing 777, while the double-decker A380 takes 22 days.
