Washington, May 3 / WAM / The American airline Spirit Airlines announced on Saturday the suspension of all its operations in preparation for liquidation procedures, after failing to obtain a government rescue plan to confront the repercussions of rising fuel prices and other challenges.
Spirit Airlines, which has been suffering from financial distress for several years, said in a statement that all flights have been canceled and customer service is no longer available, in preparation for an orderly liquidation of its operations.
The statement added that despite the company’s efforts, the significant rise in oil prices and other pressures on the business greatly affected the financial outlook, and due to the lack of any additional financing, Spirit had no choice but to begin liquidation procedures.
For his part, US Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy said in a press conference on Saturday that the administration of President Donald Trump made a great effort to find a way to prevent the company’s operations from stopping, but it did not succeed in achieving this.
