ABU DHABI, 4th May, 2018 (WAM) – His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President of the UAE, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chief of the Presidential Cabinet, witnessed the launch of the activities of the fifth session of the “Make in the Emirates” platform, which will be held from 4 to 7 May this year at the ADNEC Center Abu Dhabi, and hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, the Abu Dhabi Investment Office, ADNOC, and Al Emad Holding Company, and organized by the ADNEC Group, under Slogan: “Advanced Industry: We Emerge Stronger.”
His Highness inspected a number of pavilions of participating entities from inside and outside the country, and during a tour of the platform, he was briefed on the latest national initiatives and projects aimed at strengthening the industrial sector and consolidating the UAE’s position as a regional and global industrial center, as the “Make in the Emirates” platform is the largest industrial gathering in the region with broad local, regional and international participation that includes an elite group of decision makers and senior officials in various industrial fields from the governmental and private sectors, in addition to a large number of entrepreneurs, investors, experts and innovators. And representatives of banking and financial institutions.
During the tour, His Highness also listened to detailed explanations about the innovations and advanced technologies on display, especially in the fields of bio-industries, advanced technology, and artificial intelligence. His Highness also reviewed the efforts made to support national content, empower Emirati cadres and talents, strengthen supply chains, and raise the competitiveness of the national economy, in line with the “We Are the Emirates 2031” vision and the UAE Centennial 2071.
On the sidelines of the event, His Highness met with His Excellency Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef, Chairman of the General Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones in the Sultanate of Oman, where they reviewed the cooperation relations between the UAE and the Sultanate of Oman, and ways to develop them in a way that achieves common interests and brings benefit and goodness to the two brotherly countries.
His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan stressed that the wise approach of the wise leadership has put the UAE industrial system on an advanced path, and has made the UAE an incubator for various vital industries at the regional and global levels, by stimulating innovation, attracting investments, and developing a flexible and stimulating business environment.
His Highness noted that the “Make in the Emirates” platform has become a basic pillar that contributes to supporting the country’s efforts to diversify the economy, build a sustainable industrial base, and move towards a better future for current and future generations.
His Highness also pointed out the importance of continuing to strengthen the partnership between the government and private sectors to achieve the goals of the national strategy for industry and advanced technology, in addition to supporting the launch of specific initiatives and projects that enhance the UAE’s position as a leading destination on the global industrial map, and dedicate its cultural contributions to the process of progress.
In his opening speech, His Excellency Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, said: We meet today after an experience that our region went through and whose repercussions affected the world… an experience that the UAE faced, as everyone has always known it, with unyielding determination, firm unity, and a clear, unchanging goal. Praise be to God, we have survived with the blessing, vision, and guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, “may God protect him,” praising the tremendous efforts of our armed forces, which these days are celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of their unification, the civil defense teams, the heroes of the front lines, and all the institutions concerned.
He pointed to the progress achieved by the National Strategy for Industry through the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, “may God protect him,” and thanks to the follow-up and supervision of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President of the UAE, Deputy Prime Minister, Head of the Presidential Court, whereby the industrial sector’s contribution to the national economy was raised to 200 billion dirhams, “a 70% growth,” and the value of industrial exports reached 262 billion. dirhams, of which 92 billion dirhams are advanced industrial exports. His Excellency announced an increase in the value of industrial procurement opportunities from 168 billion dirhams to 180 billion dirhams over the next ten years, and the localization of more than 5,000 products in strategic sectors that enhance economic, food and health security, and enhance business sustainability.
He explained the importance of supporting national content, saying: With the support and follow-up of His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Vice Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and to contribute to the development of national content, and in preparation for “Made in the Emirates”, we organized yesterday a “Make with ADNOC” forum, to review its projects for the next two years with a value exceeding 200 billion dirhams, and to announce the Local+ initiative, which links engineering, procurement, construction and services contractors with 70 A qualified Emirati manufacturer, and obliges them to give priority to purchasing products manufactured in the Emirates, to enhance the presence of the national industry in ADNOC’s projects and supply chains.”

The fifth session of the “Make in the Emirates” platform witnesses wide local and international participation, including an elite group of industrialists, investors, entrepreneurs, innovators, and decision-makers in government and private sector institutions, and financial institutions, in a session distinguished by its sessions and actions, and comes at a time when the UAE is moving towards a new phase of development and planning for the future.
During the past sessions, the “Make in the Emirates” platform achieved great successes and contributed to empowering the industrial sector, supporting local industry, attracting investments, and establishing partnerships, in order to achieve the goals of the national strategy for industry and advanced technology. The platform also contributes to adopting modern technologies in industry, technological solutions, and artificial intelligence, which contributes to enhancing self-sufficiency, localizing supply chains, raising the level of industrial flexibility, and empowering Emirati competencies in the industrial sector by informing them of the most prominent opportunities available in the industrial and advanced technology sectors, and localizing products, and increasing investment in the industrial sector.
The platform also provides opportunities for emerging and medium-sized companies to develop their businesses, obtain financing solutions, establish partnerships, and transfer expertise in the context of industry development efforts, as emerging and medium-sized companies constitute 61% of the total exhibitors in the exhibition accompanying the platform, which is held annually and is attended by all visitors to the exhibition, and witnesses the display of industrial and technological innovations in the UAE.
The importance of this session comes from the fact that it comes at a new stage in the industrial sector, and after a series of decisions and initiatives adopted by the Council of Ministers to effectively enhance the capabilities, efficiency, competitiveness and flexibility of the industrial sector by enhancing the role of the National Content Program and the localization of products within the country, the most prominent of which is the establishment of the National Fund for Industrial Resilience with a value of one billion dirhams, to support the localization of vital industries, enhance the flexibility of supply chains, and build strategic stocks in the sectors of food, manufacturing industries, basic metals, and mechanical, electrical and chemical industries. pharmaceutical, advanced technology, construction and construction, expanding the national content program and turning it into a mandatory framework that includes federal government agencies, and companies in which the federal government owns a direct or indirect stake of no less than 25%, and adopting a new policy to enhance the presence of national products in sales outlets and e-commerce platforms.
The “Make in the UAE 2026” platform will transform the industrial flexibility agenda, which was promoted by Cabinet decisions, into tangible commercial results, by announcing qualitative national purchasing opportunities and localizing a group of vital products, in a way that supports the country’s goals in substituting imports and enhancing the flexibility of supply chains. The platform will provide a group of new industrial initiatives, along with specialized platforms to showcase the latest manufacturing and innovation technologies, including robots, autonomous systems, and artificial intelligence solutions.
The platform also provides local and international investors with the opportunity to learn about the achievements of the industrial sector and the profitable opportunities it provides. It also provides opportunities for the people of the Emirates to work in this sector and develop expertise in a way that is compatible with changes in the labor market and anticipates the future.
More than 1,245 exhibiting companies within 12 industrial sectors are participating in the fifth session of the “Make in the Emirates” platform, and it is witnessing the introduction of new procurement opportunities aimed at localizing the manufacture of about 5,000 products in the UAE, while small and medium-sized companies constitute 61% of the total participants. The platform is expected to attract more than 120,000 visitors, including international investors, manufacturers, decision-makers, and industrial sector leaders.
