The Center was represented at the symposium by Dr. Bassam Daghestani, Head of the Preservation, Treatment and Restoration Department, where he presented a research entitled “Treatment and Restoration of Burnt Rare Books,” during which he reviewed the importance of preserving rare books as part of the human and scientific heritage, along with the most prominent causes of their damage and the scientific methods used to treat and restore them.

As part of the symposium activities, Dr. Daghestani presented two applied workshops, the first of which dealt with the Arab-Islamic binding of manuscripts over ten centuries, where he reviewed the practical steps of binding using an original manuscript from the Matendaran Center’s holdings, explaining the materials used and implementation methods.

The second workshop focused on the restoration of manuscripts and historical documents, targeted those working in restoration departments, and addressed the most prominent technical challenges and ways to address them using modern and innovative methods, which contributes to raising the efficiency of specialists.
