"Economy and tourism" and HUB71 promote cooperation on intellectual property and patents

Abu Dhabi, 7 May / WAM / The Ministry of Economy and Tourism signed a memorandum of understanding with 1Hub7, the global technology ecosystem in Abu Dhabi, with the aim of enhancing cooperation in the fields of intellectual property, patents and agential artificial intelligence, and consolidating the culture of creativity and innovation in the Emirati society and the business environment in the country, in the presence of His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism.
The memorandum was signed by His Excellency Abdullah Ahmed Al Saleh, Undersecretary of the Ministry, and Ahmed Ali Alwan, CEO of Hub71, on the sidelines of the activities of the “Make in the UAE 2026” platform, which brings together major industrial and advanced technology companies, with the aim of strengthening the local industry and supply chains, and enabling companies of all sizes to manufacture, expand and export from the country.
On this occasion, His Excellency Abdullah Al Saleh stressed that intellectual property is a fundamental foundation for enhancing the growth and competitiveness of the national economy. Therefore, the Ministry was keen to develop an integrated legislative and regulatory system for the activities and fields of intellectual property, innovation and patents, and to provide the capabilities and facilities that support the growth of projects based on knowledge, innovation, research and development.
He said, “Today we are witnessing a new step towards enhancing the competitiveness of the intellectual property and patent system in the country, through the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Hub71, which contributes to supporting owners of inventions and innovative projects in registering and protecting their intellectual rights, and providing a supportive environment for transforming innovative ideas into legally protected, value-added products and services.”
For his part, Ahmed Ali Alwan said that protecting innovation is an essential element in the growth and expansion journey of technology companies, pointing out that through cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, work is being done to enhance the access of emerging companies within the Hub71 system to intellectual property expertise and patent support, enabling founders to protect their ideas and manage them more effectively as their business grows.
The memorandum of understanding contributes to exchanging experiences and knowledge about the applications of intellectual property activities and patents, and how to enhance the benefit from them, and supports the integration of national efforts to develop a business environment that supports innovation and creativity. The memorandum also focuses on organizing awareness campaigns and specialized training programs targeting entrepreneurs and owners of startup companies about various applications of intellectual property, especially in the field of patents.
According to the memorandum, the Ministry of Economy and Tourism provides technical and legal consultations in the field of intellectual property to Hub71, as well as coordination between the two sides in organizing specialized events such as relevant exhibitions, conferences and seminars, in addition to working to accelerate the procedures for examining patent applications, which contributes to raising the efficiency of the intellectual property system.
The memorandum includes supporting efforts aimed at marketing patents to emerging companies in the Hub71 system, in a way that enhances their growth and expansion opportunities in the markets, and supports the country’s competitive position as a leading regional center for intellectual property and innovation.
