With suspended execution… China sentences two former defense ministers to death

China’s official Xinhua News Agency reported today that former Chinese Defense Ministers Wei Fenghe and Li Shangfu were sentenced to death with a two-year suspension on corruption charges.

The two men were expelled from the ruling party in 2024 on charges of “serious violations of discipline,” which is a euphemism for corruption.

China usually commutes the suspended death sentence to life imprisonment if the convict does not commit crimes during the suspended period.
