Starmer pledges to remain in office for 10 years

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that he intends to lead the United Kingdom for ten years, despite increasing calls for his departure from within the ruling Labor Party, and the threat of his rivals to compete for the leadership of the party in the coming days, according to what Bloomberg News reported on Sunday.

Starmer told The Observer newspaper on Sunday that he would like to remain in office for a decade, and answered “yes” when asked whether he would lead the Labor Party in the next election – scheduled for mid-August of 2029 – and then serve a full second term.

However, this possibility seems increasingly unlikely, as rebel members of Parliament are considering ousting him after the ruling party suffered heavy losses in last week’s local elections, in which it lost nearly three out of every five seats it was defending, while right- and left-wing populists, the British Reform Party, and the Green Party, made significant gains.
