Aboul Gheit stresses the importance of the role of the Arab Fund for Technical Aid to African Countries
Cairo, May 13, WAM / Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, stressed the importance of the role played by the Arab Fund for Technical Aid to African Countries as an effective tool for Arab-African action, in a way that supports and complements the strategic goals that the Arab League and its member states seek to achieve with African countries, especially in light of the need to maintain the strength of Arab-African relations.
This came during his chairmanship of the meeting of the sixtieth session of the Board of Directors of the Arab Fund for Technical Aid to African Countries, which was held today at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, with the participation of Ambassador Mohand Lajouzi, Assistant Secretary-General and Director-General of the Fund, and representatives of Arab countries, members of the Board of Directors and representatives of the Arab League for Education, Culture and Science and the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa.
Gamal Rushdi, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General of the Arab League, explained that the meeting reviewed the Fund’s activity, the financial position, the final account for the year 2025, and its draft budget for the year 2026, while Aboul Gheit expressed his aspiration to strengthen member states’ support for the Fund’s budget and its development role.
He pointed out that the Fund implemented about 70 training courses during the academic year 2025-2026, benefiting 1,126 African trainees in the fields of medicine, engineering, agriculture, petroleum, mining, and nursing, in addition to providing 100 scholarships to students from 20 African countries at Arab universities. It also intends to organize 40 training courses during the academic year 2026-2027 and provide 100 new scholarships to African students.
