Rubio raises controversy after an embarrassing mistake due to “color blindness”

US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, was forced to address his health condition during a press conference held at the White House, recently, after he fell into an embarrassing situation while trying to direct a conversation to a female journalist, as he made a mistake in determining the color of her clothes, which brought back talk about his suffering with “color blindness,” a condition that he had previously revealed years ago, and sparked widespread controversy.

Rubio announced, for the first time, that he was suffering from “color blindness” in 2012, when he was a new senator representing the state of Florida, and then participated in the election campaign of the then Republican presidential candidate, Mitt Romney.

During an interview with The Hill newspaper, Rubio explained that he relies heavily on his wife, Janet, to choose his clothes and coordinate their colors.

He said jokingly, pointing to his tie: “I rely on my wife to coordinate my clothes,” then he added sarcastically: “Like the blue tie I’m wearing now,” even though it was red.

Although Rubio did not specify the type of “color blindness” he suffers from, the situation that occurred during the last press conference once again revealed the difficulty he faces in distinguishing between some colors.

While trying to choose the journalist who would ask the next question, he said: “You are the one wearing black… Yes, ma’am, no, not you, you are wearing blue.” Then he continued in a sarcastic tone: “I suffer from (color blindness), but I can distinguish between black and blue… Things seem to be chaotic here.”

During the same conference, Rubio temporarily assumed the duties of White House spokesman, replacing press secretary, Carolyn Levitt, who is currently absent due to maternity leave after giving birth to her second child.

The American minister also touched on his recent visit to the Vatican, denying that the visit was an attempt to ease tensions with Pope Leo XIV, who had been criticized by US President Donald Trump on social media during the recent period.

When a journalist asked him whether the visit was aimed at “calming the atmosphere,” Rubio categorically denied this, stressing that the visit was scheduled in advance before the public disagreements between Trump and the Pope began.
