The UAE does not expect protection from anyone

Minister of State Khalifa bin Shaheen Al Marar participated in the meeting of foreign ministers of the BRICS group held in New Delhi, Republic of India.
During the meeting, he affirmed the UAE’s categorical rejection of the allegations of the Iranian side, and of attempts to justify the Iranian terrorist attacks that targeted the UAE and brotherly and friendly countries in the region, in flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter, international law, and the principles of good neighborliness.
He affirmed the UAE’s categorical rejection of any allegations or threats that affect its sovereignty, national security, or the independence of its decisions, stressing that the UAE reserves all its sovereign, legal, diplomatic and military rights in the face of any threat, claim or hostile action.

He stressed that the UAE does not expect protection from anyone and that it is capable of deterring brutal aggression, and reserves its full and legitimate right to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity in a way that guarantees the protection of its citizens, residents and visitors in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.
He stressed that any attempts to pressure, make accusations, or promote biased allegations will not undermine the state’s firm positions, and will not deter it from protecting its highest national interests and preserving its sovereignty and the independence of its decision-making.
He pointed out that since February 28, 2026, the UAE has been subjected to repeated and unprovoked Iranian terrorist attacks, as the UAE air defenses dealt with about 3,000 attacks using ballistic and mobile missiles and drones that directly and deliberately targeted civilian facilities and vital infrastructure, including airports, ports, oil facilities, water desalination plants, energy networks, service facilities, and residential areas.
He added that despite the issuance of many international and regional resolutions and condemnations, Iran continued its terrorist attacks on the UAE and the countries of the region, in clear disregard for international consensus, including United Nations Security Council Resolution No. 2817 (2026), which was co-sponsored by 136 countries, as well as the resolution issued by the Human Rights Council, which was held on March 25, 2026 at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva, where the Council unanimously adopted a resolution condemning the Iranian attacks, stressing that they represent a violation of international law. A threat to international peace and security, the resolution was sponsored by more than 100 countries.
He referred to a number of important international resolutions in this regard, the most important of which is the resolution issued by the 36th Extraordinary Meeting of the International Maritime Organization, and the resolution issued by the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which strongly condemned Iran’s violation of state sovereignty and endangering the safety of civil aviation.
He added: “The international community continued its position in condemning the Iranian terrorist attacks. The Marine Environment Protection Committee of the International Maritime Organization adopted a resolution calling on Iran to immediately stop attacks and threats targeting commercial ships, marine tankers, and vital port infrastructure. The International Telecommunication Union Council in Geneva also unanimously adopted a resolution condemning the attacks that targeted civilian communications and information technology infrastructure. For its part, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Council adopted a resolution condemning Iran for its actions that endanger food security.” “to danger.”
He pointed out that these decisions confirm the clear international consensus to reject these terrorist attacks, and support the right of the UAE and sisterly and friendly countries to defend their sovereignty in accordance with international law. It also sends a clear and unified message that the international community will not tolerate Iranian terrorist attacks on the sovereignty of states or the deliberate targeting of civilians and vital infrastructure.
He explained that Iran has obstructed and disrupted the movement of international shipping lanes, including the actual closure of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important global waterways, in clear violation of international law, stressing that targeting commercial navigation and using the Strait of Hormuz as a tool of pressure or economic blackmail constitutes acts of piracy and constitutes a direct threat to the stability of the region and its peoples and to global energy security.
He also held Iran fully responsible for these terrorist attacks and their repercussions, stressing that respect for the sovereignty of states and dialogue, stopping terrorist attacks, and strict adherence to international law represent the necessary foundations for any real and sustainable stability.
