Lebanon and Israel – The United Nations welcomes the extension of the cessation of hostilities

The United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Lebanon, Imran Riza, said yesterday, Friday, that civilians have suffered an “increasing and horrific toll” as a result of Israeli air strikes, despite the announcement of a ceasefire about a month ago.

He added that the number of victims is increasing “They represent lives lost or irreparably damaged, families separated, and communities forced to confront recurring cycles of fear, displacement and loss.”

UNICEF also warned that children in Lebanon are still paying the heaviest price as a result of continued violence, displacement, and exposure to traumatic events, noting reports that at least 59 children were killed or injured during the past seven days alone, despite the ceasefire agreement on April 17.
