98 dust hours were monitored in the countries of the region… and Iran leads with 39 hours

Register Regional Center For dust and sand storms, during the day of May 16, 2026, a total of 98 hours of dust cases occurred in a number of countries in the region, as part of its continuous efforts to monitor, follow up and analyze influential weather phenomena, which contributes to enhancing the preparedness of the concerned authorities and supporting early warning systems.
The center explained that Iran topped the countries most affected by dust cases by recording 39 hours, followed by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with 26 hours, then Jordan. With 12 hours, and the State of Kuwait with 9 hours.
He added that Iraq recorded 4 hours of dust events, while 3 hours were observed in Egypt and Turkmenistan, in addition to recording two hours in Uzbekistan, while no dust hours were recorded in the rest of the countries of the region during the same period.
Monitoring dust phenomena
The center confirmed that these data come within its daily work to follow storm developments. Dust and sand dust and analysis of their patterns, with the aim of supporting decision-making and providing accurate information to the competent authorities and researchers, in a way that enhances efforts to reduce the effects of these phenomena on public health, the environment, and the transportation and energy sectors.
The Center continues its efforts in monitoring, research and warning through an integrated system that relies on the latest technologies and climate models to monitor dust phenomena and raise the level of preparedness to deal with them in various countries of the region.
