A new system for children’s accounts and empowering parents with modern control tools next June

Roblox, the global platform for games and interactive experiences, revealed the details of its new account system for children, as age verification has become a prerequisite for activating the chat feature within the platform through facial recognition or identity verification technologies, as well as the expansion of parental control tools.
At a time when the total daily active users on the platform reached 144 million during the last fourth of the year 2025, while interaction hours reached approximately 35 billion hours during the same period.
In detail, Roblox’s head of safety, Matt Kaufman, confirmed to Emirates Today that the new system focuses on classifying accounts according to age, in addition to expanding parental control tools and enhancing digital safety measures for users under 16 years of age, in a step aimed at raising levels of protection within the platform.
He said that the new system includes two types of accounts: “Roblox Kids” for children between 5 and 8 years old, and “Roblox Select” for the age group from 9 to 15 years old, and that their official launch will begin next June.
He stated that each type of account will be linked to a customized game library that matches the user’s age group, with different settings for content, communication, and parental control applied, with the aim of enhancing digital safety and providing a more suitable experience for children and teenagers.
He explained that age verification has become a prerequisite for activating the chat feature within the platform, through facial recognition techniques, identity verification, or through a verified parent’s account.
She explained that more than 50% of active users globally have already completed age verification procedures, while the percentage reached 65% in the United States, and with regard to the Middle East region, she indicated that chat services will remain disabled in a number of countries in the region, even after completing age verification, in compliance with local regulations and laws that were announced during September 2025.
According to the new updates, Matt Kaufman said: “Roblox Kids account users will only be able to access games classified within the ‘Fair’ and ‘Light’ categories, while ‘Roblox Select’ users will be allowed to access games with a maximum rating of ‘Average’, after subjecting the content to continuous review and evaluation processes.”
He added that the new supervision systems rely on artificial intelligence, analysis of user reports, and multimedia review to monitor any content or behavior that may violate the platform’s safety policies. Games that include sensitive topics or virtual social media spaces will also be excluded from accounts designated for children.
In the context of enhancing parental control, Roblox will provide parents with additional tools that include managing chat settings, blocking specific games, and monitoring children’s activity on the platform, in addition to controlling screen time and digital spending, with some of these powers continuing until the user reaches the age of sixteen.
Matt Kaufman said that the company is focusing through these updates on “providing an integrated safety system that accompanies the child at the various stages of his development, and gives families more effective tools for managing their children’s digital experience.”
