The eastern United States saw a second day of A heat waveearly on Wednesday, as some students were returned to their homes, while others remained inside extremely hot classrooms.

The Philadelphia Schools Administration switched classes to distance education for students in 57 schools, stressing that despite progress, a number of schools still suffer from weak air conditioning systems.

A heat wave warning was in effect for parts of the states of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island until Wednesday evening. In New York City, officials opened cooling centers to help residents mitigate the effects of the heat.
