Yemen – About 5 million people suffer from acute food insecurity

This came in Quick overview It was issued today, Thursday, Integrated classification of food security stagesIn it, he warned that millions were unable to meet their basic food needs due to continued instability, local violence, security incidents, and the worsening overall economic crisis.

The report explained that out of the 5 million people, 1.4 million people suffer from the fourth (emergency) phase of acute food insecurity, which is characterized by large gaps in food consumption and people resorting to harsh coping strategies, such as “selling the last female of their animals, selling their homes or lands, or begging.”

The report cautioned that had it not been for the limited humanitarian assistance for food security provided to 1.7 million people during this period, the severity of acute food insecurity would have been much greater.

Despite the ongoing hardships, the report stated that the current period is witnessing a slight seasonal improvement in the availability and accessibility of food compared to the previous period (September 2025 – February 2026) in which the population in stage four or higher reached 1.5 million people.

This slight improvement, according to the report, is due to increased local production, monetary support from zakat and charity to a large number of the population during the month of Ramadan, and expanding the scope of humanitarian assistance for food security in areas suffering from the worst cases of food insecurity.

However, this improvement was much smaller than in previous months. However, these gains remain temporary and insufficient to offset ongoing economic and structural pressures.
