The UAE is the first regionally in electric car sales

The UAE has established itself as a leading regional center in the transition towards sustainable transportation, after topping the Middle East countries for the second year in a row in the percentage of electric vehicle sales, according to the International Energy Agency’s report issued within the “Global EV Outlook 2026”, which confirmed that the country accounts for about 50% of the total sales of electric vehicles in the region, which reflects the acceleration of the shift towards green mobility and the enhancement of the country’s competitiveness in future technologies.

This achievement reflects the results of the National Electric Vehicle Policy launched by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure in 2023, with the aim of accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles, expanding the infrastructure for charging stations, and stimulating investments in sustainable mobility solutions, in a way that supports the country’s efforts towards building a smart and sustainable transportation system.

The Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs, Engineer Sherif Al Olama, confirmed that the UAE’s topping of electric vehicle sales indicators in the region reflects a proactive vision adopted by the wise leadership to consolidate the country’s position as a global center for sustainable mobility and innovation in the energy and transportation sectors.

He said that the report confirms the UAE’s success in establishing an attractive environment for electric vehicle manufacturers and expanding their presence in the local market, supported by an advanced legislative system and advanced infrastructure, in line with the transformative project “A Global Market for Electric Vehicles,” the objectives of the UAE Energy Strategy 2050 and the Climate Neutrality Strategy 2050, and the country’s efforts to enhance energy efficiency and raise the quality of life.

Al Olama added that the country continues to achieve qualitative achievements in the process of transition towards a green economy, driven by an ambitious national vision that aims to build a more efficient transportation system based on clean technologies. This achievement embodies the success of national policies and strategies that have strengthened the country’s readiness to accommodate global transformations in the electric vehicle sector.

He stated that the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, in cooperation with its partners from the government and private sectors, is working to accelerate the development of an integrated system to support the spread of electric vehicles, which includes expanding the infrastructure of charging stations and stimulating investment and innovation in green mobility solutions. The Emirates Company’s launch of electric vehicle charging stations also comes as a strategic step to develop an advanced national charging network that supports the expansion of the use of electric vehicles and raises the readiness of the country’s future infrastructure.
